11 firefighters injured in blast at Los Angeles hash oil-supply warehouse
The one-story, “Smoke Tokes Warehouse Distributor” building on East Boyd Street, blew up at 6:30 p.m. after firefighters were already inside due to a reported fire, officials said.
Firefighters at first saw nothing unusual — until the blast rocked the building around them, according to department spokesman Nicholas Prange.
More than 200 additional firefighters responded as the massive blast caused multiple buildings to catch fire. Dozens of fire trucks rushed to the scene.
Some of the injured firefighters suffered “obvious damage and burns from the blast,” LAFD Capt. Erik Scott told the Los Angeles Daily News, though it wasn’t immediately clear how severely the heroes were injured.
Smoke Tokes Warehouse Distributor is “a supplier for those who make butane honey oil,” a powerful, high THC cannabis extract, Scott said.
“My thoughts are with our brave @LAFD firefighters,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted. “Closely tracking this situation as we continue to get more information.”
