Connecticut inmate hangs himself using prison-issued COVID-19 mask
A Connecticut prisoner hanged himself Thursday using a cloth mask distributed to inmates to help protest against coronavirus.
Daniel Ocasio, 32, was found by guards Wednesday morning sitting on his cell bunk at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center with a ligature tied around his neck, the Department of Corrections said.
The ligature was made from one of the distributed face masks.
Ocasio’s death was ruled a suicide by the medical examiner’s office, The New York Times reported.
Ocasio had been at the prison since Aug. 5. He was being held on $10,000 bond for a burglary.
His death is being investigated by state police and prison officials.
