Four police officers shot in St. Louis amid chaos and looting

Four St. Louis police officers were struck by gunfire on Monday amid the national unrest that has followed the death of George Floyd.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police force said early Tuesday that the four officers had been struck by gunfire and were taken to a hospital where they were expected to survive.

“Officers are still taking gunfire downtown & we will share more info as it available,” the department tweeted at around 2 a.m.

The cops were shot in the downtown area of the city, where looters had ransacked the area and fires were burning throughout the night.

As with countless other incidents of looting and violence across the country, the chaos in St. Louis, Missouri stemmed from earlier protests against the death of Floyd while in police custody.
