Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and Hon’ble Prime Minister of Japan Launch the Mumbai-Ahmadabad High Speed Rail Project  

 


 

  • Project outlay at Rs 1,10,000 crore; 81 percent funded through a Japanese soft-loan
  • Project completion time 5-6 years (2022-23); based on the Shinkansen technology of Japan
  • Top speed of 350 kmph, operational speed 320 Kmph, to reduce travel time to about 2 hours from the current 8 hours between Mumbai and Ahmedabad
  • Technical and financial assistance being provided by the government of Japan

 

Ahmedabad: September 14, 2017: The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and H.E Mr. Shinzo Abe, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Japan unveiled separate plaques marking the inauguration and Commencement of Work of the prestigious Mumbai-Ahmadabad High Speed Rail Project at Sabarmati, Gujarat on 14th September, 2017.

The top Political leadership of the States of Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Union Ministry of Railways were present in the formal Project inauguration ceremony.

 

Shri O.P. Kholi, Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat was the Guest of Honour.

Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railway, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shri. Vijay Rupani, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat were present for the occasion. Also present were, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog, Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways, Shri. Rajan Gohain, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways, Shri S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary of India, Shri Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor and a galaxy of top decision makers from India and Japan were also present at the momentous function.

 

Chairman Railway Board Shri. Ashwani Lohani, Managing Director of National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd., Shri. Achal Khare were present along with other top officials from the States, Railways and associated organizations.

 

The event was also marked by the formal launching of the HSR training center at Vadodra, in the well-attended mega event, participated by a strong Japanese contingent as well as members of the Indian and Global media.

 

The function began with a welcome address by Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railway. This was followed by separate addresses to the mammoth gathering by Shri Devendra Phadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shri Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat.

 

Subsequently, a short and gripping audio visual, projecting the highlights and the milestone events of the unique project was played to the audience.

 

This was followed by both PM, Modi and PM, Abe pressing electric buttons to unveil the plaques, formally inaugurating the project.

HE Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan addressed the gathering bringing tremendous bonhomie underscoring the deep friendship between the two Prime Ministers.

 

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, delivered his characteristic majestic speech which weaved magic before the audience eliciting robust response from the crowd.

 

The MAHSR project marks the arrival of the fastest means of ground transportation for the citizens of India with a never before long-term impact and transformative effect. The project makes India a part of the elite club of countries with state-of-the-art high speed railway systems.
