Truck kills four cops who stopped speeding Porsche in Australia

Four Australian police officers were killed when they were struck by a truck while attempting to detain a speeding Porsche driver on the side of a highway Wednesday night, officials said.

The wreck occurred as the Victoria Police officers — three men and a woman — were standing in the emergency lane of Eastern Freeway in Melbourne, Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said.

The cops had pulled over the 41-year-old driver of a Porsche 911 for driving 25 mph over the speed limit when they were suddenly struck by the driver of a refrigerated delivery truck.

The tragedy was the largest loss of police lives in a single incident in Victoria state, Ashton said.

It’s unclear what caused the fatal collision, but the truck driver suffered a medical episode after the crash, authorities said. He was still hospitalized as of Thursday.

The driver of the Porsche, meanwhile, fled after the crash and posted grisly photos of the scene online before being arrested. He later tested positive for an illicit drug.

Charges against the Porsche driver, who has a criminal record, were pending as of early Thursday.
